Vodafone Foundation Ireland Building

The proposed Vodafone Foundation Ireland Building is a multi-purpose facility to be constructed in Kaoma, Western Province, Zambia.  The building will help facilitate  the Intercultural Leadership Programme where students from Ireland and Zambia come together  to learn from each other and share their experiences. The building will serve to house visiting students from Ireland and as a meeting and learning venue.

When not in use by the Leadership Programme, the building is available to the Cheshire Home Orphanage in Kaoma for income generation.

Local Implementing Partner: BuildIT International, is an NGO that trains men and women in building skills, while working on construction projects for local communities.  Alan Kerins Projects partners with BuildIT International so that the finished buildings are low cost and low maintenance, while at the same time fully fit for purpose.  BuildIT uses local materials and appropriate technology in all its projects.  The training programme means that when BuildIT leaves a community having completed a building project, there is a group left in the town with up to date building skills, and the ability to earn a living from these skills.
