The Cork and Mongu construction crews on the final day

For the final 2 days of the trip, the local Mongu and Cork construction teams put on a huge push to complete the project.

During the 2 weeks of this year’s trip, the combined Cork and Mongu team did a fantastic job, finishing ahead of the agreed schedule.

Day 15 - Inside the education centre

Day 15 - Inside the education centre

Given the difficulties they faced, including high temperatures, power cuts, this a great achievement.

It would not have been possible without the preparatory work from the local Mongu team in advance. Working side by side during the 2 weeks the two teams formed a great bond and learnt a lot from each other. The Mongu team will now complete the roofing of the chalet and the finish and fit-out of the 2 buildings which will be ready for use by the end of the year.

The Cork Friends are hugely grateful for the hospitality and welcome they received from the community in Mongu and look forward to seeing the completed buildings up and running in 2011.

About this project

The Education Centre in Mongu is generating income for the Cheshire home in Mongu. It is used by local groups for training, workshops and by international groups as their base for immersion and cross-cultural projects. A guesthouse will also be constructed for group accommodation, generating additional income. The centre and guesthouse will create additional employment for locals.
