NUI Galway Students’ Union 2011

NUIG Students' Union

NUI, Galway Students’ Union will be supporting Alan Kerins Projects and Ability West for the coming year. Every year the Students’ Union selects charities that benefit from its fundraising initiatives. Thousands of euro are raised by NUI Galway students every year through different activities ranging from sports competitions, bucket collections and even a sponsored firewalk. Students’ Union President Peter Mannion said:

We are delighted to be supporting two very worthy charities this year. Students in NUI Galway have a very proud tradition of fundraising for charity. This year we hope to improve on last year’s total of €20,000. The focus of our activities will be College Week next spring, but we will start work well before then to raise as much as possible for these deserving causes.

The Alan Kerins Projects works in Zambia with vulnerable children and isolated families to alleviate poverty by improving basic standards of living. Alan Kerins said:

“Working with the students of NUI Galway allows us to work in harmony in promoting and supporting our work. We will learn from the students of NUI Galway in this friendship partnership and we very much look forward to working with the Students’ Union.”
