Setting out the Site

Setting out of the site for the 5 classrooms has been done and given the go-ahead by the buildings officer. All material for the foundations has been purchased and is in transit to Kaoma.

The blocks for the project are being produced by the Shishekano Block Making Project, which attached to Cheshire Home. 3,000 of the 10,000 blocks needed for the foundation have been produced to date.


The Tile Making station has been setup – the pond for curing has been excavated and is under construction.

4 women and 12 men have been selected for the construction training program. A trainer from Kaoma Trades Institute has been hired to deliver the training. Training materials and safety gear for the trainees is being delivered by truck from Lusaka with the construction material.

About this project

This project - the Expansion of Kaoma Community School is providing additional classroom space and toilet facilities for the 700 students in the school, including Science and Home Economic facilities. 16 local workers are receiving formal qualification in construction during the build. A tile-making operation is being set up that will generate additional income for the projects there.
